RSGB Contest Results Club Calls (1.8MHz AFS) 2017
v4.144 by G4CLA

This year Club Calls saw the addition of CW as a mode and a move from bonuses to a multiplier based scoring system. There were 113 entries for adjudication this year, which is slightly down on 2016. A total of 47 clubs were represented, with 12 of those mustering at least 4 stations. Chris GM3WOJ provided an extra multiplier by running the RSGB club station GB3HQ from Scotland.

Congratulations to Camb-Hams 'A' for winning the David Hill G4IQM Memorial Trophy for leading Local Club team and to G4PIQ for winning the Aerial Trophy for 1st place in the individual competition. Second place goes to G3TBK and third to G4BWP, well done both. A certificate for leading General Club goes to De Montfort University ARS 'A' .

The introduction of CW was helpful to many with high noise levels but discouraging to those who are not Morse operators. For that reason the rules next year will include separate categories 'SSB only' and 'SSB+CW' and they will both count equally towards a total club score. The introduction of multipliers was found to be unnecessary and open to abuse. The rules for next year will revert to the scoring system of previous years with bonus points awarded for QSOs with other bona fide entrants to the contest.
