21/28 Mhz CW, October 2002

The inevitable decline in sunspot activity gave way to poorer propagation for the 2002 contest. However, there was still an impressive amount of DX to be worked, including, 7Q, A3, AH8, BY, CE, JY, KH6, VP8, VR2 and ZK. Only a small number of entrants worked a few of these countries and no-one came close to working them all, though!

There were a pleasing number of QRP entries which also boasted some DX QSOs themselves. With changing propagation from year to year, a different winning strategy is required to maximise multiplier totals, if there is not a high volume of contacts available.

The UK Open secion winner is again Jan, G0IVZ, although this year he was very closely followed by Steve, G0CKP. Jim, G3RTE, heads up the UK Restricted section, and Harold, G2HLU, wins the UK QRP section.

Congratulations also to all of the Overseas sections winners, several of which are now many-time winners: Vladimir, 9H1ZA, Pandea, YO6MT, Rumen, LZ2RS, and Vladimir, UA3-170-847.

Lee Volante, G0MTN.

G3LIK, G4HZV, GW3SB, 8S0F, LZ1FJ and ZC4DW are thanked for their useful Check Logs.

OH1-688 was reclassified as a check log.
