November 1997 144 MHz CW Contest Results

Entries for this contest in 1997 were once again up on the previous year, although people are clearly migrating over to the single operator sections. Most people found conditions to be variable, but with some good pieces of DX crawling out of the woodwork. For instance, Frank Howe, G3FIJ worked into JO70 using only 10W, and G3JJZ and G8VG both made some good QSOs using just plain vertical colinears. As usual, the band in mainland Europe in particular was very busy, with activity right the way up to 144.150.

Congratulations go to John Regnault, G4SWX for dominating the single operator 24 hour section with just a straight key and about 8 hours on and off operating, and Ian Cornes, G4OUT takes a very creditable second place with his much more modest station. Things were more closely fought in the 6 hour section, with Ian Burns, G0AFH, operating with those regular entrant’s callsign G0FBB, and narrowly beating John Lemay, G4ZTR into second place. Those other regulars, the G-Force contest group, G4XBF/P, once again win the 24 hour multi-operator section. G3FIJ and G0IZU will receive the certificates as the leading stations using 25W or less and single antennas.
