Another bumper crop of logs for this years AFS contest, with many new callsigns amongst the entry list. Thanks to everyone who took part or was active on the band, which helped in making this an enjoyable event, especially to those brave souls who went out portable!
In the AFS section, the Martlesham RS return to their winning ways in this contest, getting together a big enough team to take 1st place for the first time since the new rules for calculating the overall scores was introduced. The Five Bells group have been climbing the table over the last couple of years and have improved again this year to take the runners up position.
The Martlesham RS also takes first place in the Multi-Op section with their club entry G4MRS and in the Single-Op section with club member Andy, G4PIQ. The number of entries in the SO section has increased significantly this year, with Dave, G4CQR/P taking 1st place. Once again John, G4ZTR, is the highest placed 25w single yagi station.
Pete Lindsay, G4CLA.

G0DVJ: Conditions average Quite a bit of QSB G0EYO: Conditions reasonable G0HSA: Nice weather pity about the band conditions G0KYS/P: High winds prevented erection of the big antenna, so found it tough going way out west with only 25W! Temperatures of -2C made me avoid venturing outside the car unless absolutely necessary! Packed up after 5 hours before it got dark. G1WAC: QSB. QSB. More QSB. G1ZJP: Must do better!! G3FIJ: Rather Flat. QSB on longer paths G3MEH: Good signals from GM with reasonable activity throughout the contest. Thanks to all those who took the trouble to come up and give points away. G3TWG: Conditions a bit above normal. G3UFY: Comments: Worked all I heard but found it very slow going. This is a poor QTH to the north and east (ie most of the country!) being right under the Crystal Palace hill. G3YNN: Just giving away points, not sure about our JN03 but it's what we copied G4CQR/P: VERY WINDY, AVERAGE TO THE EAST G4DEZ: Not a great deal about! Conditions mediocre. G4HLX: Conditions very normal for this event (when was the last time we had a good opening during this contest? - 1983 I think). G4NPH: Sorry if I couldn't work everyone who called as my antenna rotator is broken G4PIQ: Good fun as usual. Nice activity from France at the start in their contest. Didn't think that activity in DL was that good or that long DX conditions were that good, but not too bad over shorter paths. A little enhancement to GM. G4SIV: Average conditions only. Activity OK? G4SJM/P: Just entering for fun and checking the site for future VHF contests. G4SWX: Only able to be QRV for about 3 hours. Power cut at start. QRM Alley. G4TJE: Poor conditions made contacts hard to work. Didn't work any GW's which was surprising for me. G4WJS: Hard work in average condx, gud tropo both before & after G4XPE: Nice to hear so much activity although by lunchtime I had worked all I could hear bar one. G6GVI/P: A fine, dry day, but rather cold. I found a sunny but partly sheltered spot on the top of the Mendips, but was glad of my hat and gloves. There was some slow, deep fading, rather reminiscent of 4m. Plenty of activity in the Home Counties, but not much from the North, and very surprisingly, nothing at all from Wales! G6TTL: Part time entry to 12:00, but looking forward to doing more. G8CUL: Variable, but an awful lot of weak signals. Long periods of no contacts meant real dedication to stay the course - but we did! G8SRL: Conditions were above average with paths to the East and the North the best. There was noticable QSB on some of the contacts. It was a pleasant supprise to find an opening to IO87 square near the end of the contest. G8XQS/P: Token entry from 4 hours of operation. Crystal clear blue sky, not a breath of wind - where better to spend a December day than at 1200 ft in the Pennines! Condx reasonable. Spent a while fruitlessly chasing GI/EI/GD for multipliers....should've read the rules first!! Do just wonder if the 0900 start is really necessary - 1000-1600 would probably suffice for this one and be more 'family friendly'. G8ZRE: More QSOS than last year but long periods of nothing,Not much activity in the North. M0BPQ/P: Fun way to spend a 3 and a half hours. I felt condx were above average but I don't often operate from this site. What great wx. I am usually wet during contests ! M0COK: Hard work after first two hours with some QSB evident Some good openings with DX working possible at times. M0ZZO: Not much improvement on last year despite having a larger and higher antenna. Must move house to the top of a hill M5FUN: Not really good conditions from here but some nice contacts. Managed to repair damage done last week - I think!
