Weather for this contest was 'normal'. Normal for an RSGB contest that is,
high winds, rain, thunderstorms and high levels of static! Despite that a number
of groups made the effort to go out portable and were rewarded by some reasonable
DX. There was no repeat of last years East/West battle in the Multi-op section
this year, with the East Coast stations taking the top 4 places. Congratulations
to the Blacksheep CG, M0BAA/P, the winner of this section.
In the single-op section Roger, G3MEH took the top spot again, with Jonathan
M5FUN runner up, despite only arriving back in the UK on the afternoon of the
contest.
Congratulations also go to GM4WLL/P, G7RAU and MM0FVC/P. Also to PE1EWR as the
leading overseas entry and 2E1GUA as the top placed low power single operator
There were a number of bad signal complaints received for this contest, and
these are being discussed with those involved.
Pete Lindsay. G4CLA.

G3MEH: Largely a re-run of last year - an enjoyable contest
G3YJR: A good level of activity, with pretty flat conditions and some tremendous QSB. Good to hear some M3 calls joining in. G3YNN: Aerial buffetted with strong gusts. Very heavy QSB G4ADV: up on last years score G4APJ: Lot of activity Saturday evening, just as I was going out. Also from the backpackers, when my 6 hours was done. Also the usual domestic interrupts, but it was fun and I collected quite a few postal districts for this year. G4DEZ: Very quiet not much DX either. Could only operate for 3hours but well worth entering G4SIV/P: Despite poor forecasts (Wx & Tropo) conditions seemed to be very good at time and aweful at others (both Dx & Wx). Set up early, but during early testing some equipment problems caused a brand new transverter to blow the f/e device - had no exact spares available so had to fight through Boston traffic to return home and pick up replacement kit. Started the event on an IC202s with small solid state amplifier. It took about 90mins after the start of the event to hook up and test the replacement kit - TS850 & TVTR into the valve PA. Very pleased at the level of activity UK & Europe (especially GM - what a lot! - Keep it up). Some nice, surprising, Dx despite the high noise floor due to the increased level of band activity by high power stations (not sure all of it was necessary though!). Fortunately the wet weather managed to steer clear of clearing away after the contest and so it was a reasonable event, but leaves you thinking what might have been if the new transverter had not blown! G4ZAP/P: Flat G7RAU: Too windy Saturday 2b qrv :-( G8HGN: Some good DX at times in between QSB/QRM. GM4VVX: Sat. 17th May was forcast locally as very wet and windy, and they were not wrong Hi Hi. So I did not go out /p as it is not too easy to get the ant. up in the wind when on your own. Sun. was better so set out for the nearest accesable high spot, that can be got to in the car as some of the clouds looked ominous. I did not want to backpack, as the low power would be very little use this far North. The qro and masthead pre-amp is very nessesary ! Still quite breezy and 'lost' the mast when trying to errect it with the 17ele yagi. The whole lot fell and the ant. made a good representation of the letter Z.... Lots of naughty words and TLC and I was able to tx at 08.15uct. So did not miss much of the intended 6hr qrv.... Very pleased to hear so many stations qrv, and the district multipliers made ops turn to the North now and again... Deep qsb but persistence and then speed, you could complete before fading. If not, it could be 10 - 15mins before the signals would come up again. In the early part 08 - 09:30uct I heard a F station in JN19 working a G. and then an ON working a GM to the South of me. But that was all, as they were not calling cq but answering UK ops. I did not hear any other non UK later in the contest. Nice to get lots of thanks for activating the Loc. and IV district from stations to the South. GM4WLL/P Very poor conditions on Saturday, but started to pick up early evening. By Sunday conditions were much improved, although there was periodic static rain throughout the contest. GW8ZRE/P: Many eentry in Backpackers Good conditions. M0BAA/P: Expected rain, got lots of wind instead 20-40Mph for most of the event. Laptop failed while building the station. Conditions flat/average but good to work OK and OE. We were deliberately jammed for the first 45 min of the contest, then had static rain for the next hour or so which combined to lower our QSO rate at the start. Preamp on second mast appeared to fail about 2 hours from the end of the contest which reduced our ability to pick of multipliers. M0BPQ/P: Windy wx, so only ran a small antenna. Was not QRV for the full time (only 4hrs), as I was searching the area for a suitable site. The lay-by I settled on was the best site I have used on 2m for allround coverage. Working the BP's is always a fun challenge and I was happy with the overall activity, even though conditions seemed average. If I can find a friendly farmer I'll use this ridge again ! M0WYE: Only managed two half-hour sessions in an otherwise busy weekend. Seemed to be plenty of activity, despite high winds and showers. Surprised how strong some stations were when cross-polarised. M0ZZO: Very poor condx could work very few stations Working over north sea sounded like a constant Lightning Storm M1BQY/P: Static rain made operation nearly impossible at times. Conditions and activity generally poor from this part of the country. M3KGC: The old man sounded desperate for a contact on Sunday afternoon, so I took pity on him and gave him a shout! M5FUN: Didn't operate as much as I wanted to due to arriving in England at 13:30 UTC on the Saturday having been on a school field trip! MM0FVC/P: First contest in ages running QRO on 2m. What a difference. Several periods with pile-ups from PA/ ON/DL. Roll on NFD! MU0FAL: poor conditions but lots of stations heard who never turned ant this way.
