144MHz CW

There were only nine entries this year, with no big scores in the 24-hour sections.

All entries are automatically forwarded to the Italian society ARI for the 144MHz Marconi Memorial Contest, which runs concurrently with the RSGB contest. This contest is well supported across Europe, and provides plenty of DX to work.

Most stations reported conditions to be poor with deep QSB, although there were some openings; four stations managed to work over 900km. G4ZTR had the best DX, working OM3KII at 1239km.

M0ITY was the only entrant in the 24-hour Open section, and only operated for a few hours. The station was operated by Jiri M0ITY and Dave M3WMV.

Joe Butt G0JJG was the leading station in the 24-hour Single Operator Fixed section, with Steve Bunting M0BPQ in second place. Steve also picks up the certificate for the leading fixed station running 25W or less to a single antenna in this section.

The Windmill Contest Group G0FBB, who won the 6-hour Open section, achieved the highest score across all sections.

The 6-hour Single Operator Fixed section was the only section to be closely fought. Congratulations to David Johnson G4DHF on taking first place, just ahead of last year's winner John Lemay G4ZTR who was a close second. Mike Pemberton G4DDL picks up the certificate for leading station running 25W or less to a single antenna in this section.

Comments from the logs
G0JJG
Lots of nice mini openings, lost both JO53 and JO61!
G3WKZ
Terrible rainy weather
G4DHF
Drove home some 700Km from my GM expedition, woke late and finished early as conditions were generally poor, although there were glimpses of some fine DX on the peaks of the deep QSB.
G4RYV
Conditions very poor, deep QSB. Disappointing less than half last years no of contacts, but enjoyed the challenge of making the contacts made, try again next time.
M0BPQ
Just back on the air after moving house. Conditions seemed pretty average, but nice to be back
M0ITY
Wet, no wind. Excellent tropo. On the air in total just for few hours. Station rebuild. Thanks to Dave M3WMV for helping a LOT.
