First 70 MHz 2009

This year 92 stations were active during the event from DL, EI, G, GD, GI, GM and GW. Six of the entrants worked over half of the available stations and activity levels remained high through to the end of the event. The number of entries is the highest in the ten years the event has run in its current form.

Conditions were rated as flat through to good with the usual deep 70MHz QSB. This year there were no Sporadic-E contacts. Only one QSO over 500kMs was completed.

A number of entrants will notice reductions in their claimed scores. All elements of the exchange are checked so it is worth ensuring that all of the information is received correctly during the QSO.

Entrants are reminded of the rule concerning the use of the DX Cluster and various Internet facilities. The committee monitor usage and warning letters have been issued.

Congratulations go to the section winners: The Northern Lights, GD0EMG, and Bryn, G4DEZ. Stations marked (*) will receive certificates.

Comments from the logs
G0BWC/P
Some QSB but very enjoyable to do.
G0EHV/P
Deep QSB at times but fair amount of activity. Windy!
G0PQF
Deep QSB on some signals. Good level of activity, very enjoyable.
G1KHX
Fair, no GMs heard.
G3LVP
For once everything worked! Activity a little up on previous but conditions seemed below average only 1 GM worked & 1 gotaway. Nothing from GI, GU or GJ. Good to hear some old familiar calls back on the band & also some newcomers
G3TCT
Condx fair to good, with good activity.
G3TCU
Slight lift to the NW good level of activity
G4ADV/P
Couldn't hear many of the stations that were obviously taking part - are they all beaming away from the S.W.?
G4DEZ
Reasonable activity but no Es !
G4RFR
Activity level good. Conditions fair. Deep QSB.
G4RYV
Fair with high local hash.
G6UBM
Sounded quiet, high SWR.
G8CUL
Slow but worked some DX for a change!
G8HGN
Testing H/B HB9CV propped up on a piece of trellis in the garden.
G8LED/P
Took longer to assemble the antenna than we thought so missed the first 30 minutes. Glad it was a nice sunny morning!
G8LZE
Multiplexing between contest and GP.
GM4DIJ
Fairly flat - improved towards end
GW4RWR
Late start. Flat condx but nice day.
GW8ASD
Deep QSB. Good activity. Problems copying the more distant stations because of strong local signals. It would help if we spread out a bit more. :-)
M0PVA
Just using a junk box dipole till beam is sorted.
