2009 144 MHz UK Activity Contest & Club Championship

The rules for 2009 144MHz UK Activity Contest (UKAC) & Club Championship were extensively altered. The definition of the sections was altered to segregate stations by power and number of antennas only.

The normalisation scheme was also altered so that the number of points scored only depended on the final position in each month's results table and the number of stations who entered. These changes were intended to reward consistent performance rather than a good performance in only a few sessions.

Overall, 316 stations have entered one or more of the twelve monthly sessions, 61 more than in 2008. These figures do not tell the whole story however. The table below shows the number of stations who entered one to twelve sessions in the 144MHz UKAC.

If these figures are analysed further it can be seen that:

164 stations entered four or more sessions

124 stations entered six or more sessions

89 stations entered eight or more sessions

Overall, the average entry for the contests was 129 with a minimum entry of 111 (January) and a maximum of 147 (December).

It is also interesting to note that 78 stations decided that /P operation was the best option for at least some of the sessions. One station (MM0GPZ/P) braved the weather for eleven of the twelve sessions to provide the best DX for many stations.

Fifty-one Affiliated Clubs & Societies competed in the Club Championship, eleven more than in 2008.

For the forth year running, the Cray Valley Radio Society has dominated the 2m Club Championship. The runners-up were the Trowbridge & District Amateur Radio Club.

Last years runner up in the SF section G4DEZ elected to enter the AO section this year and emerged as the victor by winning ten of the monthly sessions. M1MHz was the runner-up with MM0GPZ in third place.

In the AR section, there has been a titanic battle between M0BRA (Bracknell ARC), G4IRC/P (Ipswich RC), and G0XDI/P (Chesham & DARS). Each of these stations scored more than 7900 points out of a theoretical maximum of 8000. The winner could not be determined until all of the sessions had been completed. In the final session, G0XDI/P managed to win for the seventh time this year to secure the overall win by 4 points. Unfortunately, M0BRA could not compete in the final session due to snow - in Switzerland!

Due to the exceptional number of entries this year, certificates have been awarded to the top five places in the AR section, the top three places in the AO section and the top four places in the Club Championship.

Rules for 2010

The rules for this contest have been slightly altered for 2010. Entries must now be submitted within 7 days of the end of each session. Further information and the full rules for the 2010 2m UKAC & Club Championship are available on the RSGB Contest Committee web site (www.rsgbcc.org/vhf).
