432MHz Low Power 2010

Entry level for this contest has increased and is at the highest ever with 38 logs received. 327 different stations were active during the contest where conditions were reported being very flat & activity levels low despite there being far more active stations than 2009. Logging standards were reasonable but some stations managed to lose over 30% of their claimed score due to errors. When these errors occur with a multiplier station, a huge slice of total score will be lost so logging accuracy is even more important where multipliers are concerned. 32% of errors were due to incorrectly logged signal reports & 24% were due to incorrect serial numbers. It has been noticed that some errors could be occurring when stations that use paper logs type in the incorrect information for uploading to the contest log submission robot. This is probably because of difficulty reading some operators handwriting. As an example, M logged as H, V logged as U, I as T or J etc.

The A1 CG retain their winning position in the Open section with the Five Bells CG as runners-up. Erik, G8XVJ & Ron, GW4EVX retain their winner & runner-up positions in the Single Operator Others section and Ian, G8KQW wins the Single Operator Fixed section with Bryn G4DEZ retaining his runner-up position.

Congratulations to all certificate winners as below.

  • Winner - Open section - A1 Contest Group (G4ZAP/P)
  • Runner-up - Open section - Five Bells CG (G4SIV)
  • Winner - Single Operator Fixed section - Ian Lamb (G8KQW)

Comments from the logs:
2E0NEY
Very quiet at times, but some nice DX
G0BWC/A
Grey and drizzly, so decided not to go out portable.
G0CER
slow going.
G0KZT
It seemed a bit quiet. Could have been my aerial but other also reported it was quiet. I guess that's 70cms!
G0SWL/P
Very poor
G0VFW
Wx was Ok, conditions were average. Thanks to those who were operating /P
G0VHF/P
Propagation took a vacation!
G0XDI
Conditions Awfull!
G1ONE/P
Damp, dark dismal, flat conditions, but good fun as always
G3MDG/P
Slow going with 62 mins between QSO's near the end.
G3WIR/P
Missed the lift up country very little activity nothing from the continent at this QTH
G3YJR
Poor conditions. The Scots faded away!
G4DEZ
Conditions terrible activity lower than yesterday.
G4HGI
not sure, not on long enough !
G4SIV
Conditions flat and little activity from continent
G4ZAP/P
Flat band. Usual problems with this contest - Txvtr died a few minutes into the contest. Re-wired for FT726 resulted in RF feedback into audio; fixed after some re-routing of cables. Good activity and enjoyable contest. Pity we somehow missed DL (again).
G8HGN
Flat band, poor activity, EU very scarce.
G8JXV
Mainly used the contest to evaluate the FT2K/XV432/SDR-IQ combination. Apologies to anyone who called me whom I couldn't hear - the setup seems rather deaf.
G8KQW
Flat / poor conditions - thanks to all for the good QSOs
G8LZE
Slower than a lethargic sloth
G8XVJ/P
went awful at the start of contest just an hour before working down to JN06. First hour flat condition very misty and wet then came the sun thanks to all.
GM4GUF/P
Flat. /P 748m ASL on Couter Fell
GW3ATZ
Hard going. Poor conditions.
GW3NYY/P
Very flat conditions and low activity. People rarely beam west! When I managed to attract attention with my 5 watts, signals frequently jumped from S1 to S9 when the beam was, at last, pointed to Wales.
GW8IZR
Dunno, wasn't around long enough to find out.
M0MCV
Dismal! One day there will be some activity for a 70cms contest.
PE1EWR
Most of the time no the band seemed deserted... GL, Frank
