May 144MHz 2010

Entrants were fairly unanimous that, yet again, conditions were poor to at best average for this year's contest. Even so entry levels have increased slightly and there are more entries than ever in the 24 hour SF section. This year the rules for the 6 hour sections in all VHF contests have changed to allow only a single entry from a station using the same equipment and operators. A couple of entrants were not aware of this and in those cases only their first 6 hour operation has been allowed. Also worthy of note is that this contest is not on the list of allowed contests in the Special Contest Call NOV and therefore short contest callsigns cannot be used.

After a year's sabbatical the A1 Contest Group returned this year and took top spot in the Open Section, with the last years runners up, the Colchester Contest Group again in second place.

No surprise at the top of the leader board in the SF section with Bryn, G4DEZ once again in 1st place. However the 2nd placed entrant in this section is fairly unusual, with intermediate licensee Peter, 2E0NEY running only 50w managing to put together a really excellent score.

There were 3 entries in the SO section this year, with two members of the Bolton Wireless Club fighting it out for top honours. It was Mick, M0ICK operating G1ONE/P who came out on top from Richard, G4HGI operating as G0BWC/A.

Steve, G3ZVW once again heads the 6O section this year, managing to collect an impressive number of multipliers from his location in IO80, well away from the main areas of activity. Rob, G8HGN taking second place.

It was the more Northerly entrants who did well in the 6O section, no more so than the Clyde Coast Contest Club, GM6MD/P who made yet another very impressive score from IO75, ahead of Eddie, G0EHV/P in IO84 and MM0GPZ/P in IO85.

Congratulations and certificates also go to the following,

In the SF Section:

G3YJR, leading station using 25W or less and a single antenna

In the 6S Section:

PE1EWR, leading overseas entrant, G0TPH, leading station using 25W or less and a single antenna and M6CMG, leading foundation licensee.

Finally a thank you to F1VNR, G7HNO, G7PAL and M0TAZ for their check logs

Pete Lindsay, G4CLA.

G0PKT
Very flat.
G0RAF
Poor, low activity at start due to football?
G0VHF/P
Condx Normal. Must try to beam in 3 directions at once. GI conspicuous by absence.
G1DOX
Conditions quite good, but very little activity. In fact no QSOs in last hour of my 6 hours
G1ONE/P
Good activity throughout the day, WX cool and breezy no rain though.
G3BNE
Poor with deep QSB
G3VER/P
2nd 6O entry for this weekend (different calls, G4HSO/P being the other). Flat conditions. M6KOL's first contest - we think he is hooked.
G3YDY
Few operation On Saturday Evening. Mainly giving away points
G3YJR
Poor conditions. I heard no continental stations. EI9JU got away! Reasonable wx for the backpackers. Nearly half the stations I worked were portable.
G3ZVW
If only this event was as busy as a Tuesday night UKAC. Flat conditions and plenty of QSB.
G4CZB
Only able to do the first 2 hours of this contest. Some rapid QSB at times.
G4DEZ
Hard work again and worse than last year.
G4FOH
Poor conditions - heavy going.
G4FUR/P
Quiet at night but good fun!
G4HSO/P
Flat conditions. A good opportunity to test equipment and techniques before VHFNFD. We were lucky with the weather.
G4PDS/P
Dampish. First time at this site and a recce on Tuesday night indicated GB3ANG at good strength on a hand held beam and FT-817. Couldn't here it today !
G4RYV
Pretty flat, with QSB
G4SIV
Not our best result. Conditions poor and we had some issues with kit. Once again we had many changes of components in the system and apologise for poor quality sigs. Despite many attempts to resolve they seem ed to return - even swapped pa etc.Not the best way to celebrate G4ODA's Birthday!
G4XPE
Very slow going due to poor propogation and low activity.
G4ZAP/P
Poor with lots of QSB
G6CSY
Didn't hear any DX in the sunrise opening to the east! Also missed out on the GW/EI/GM stations that were around. Running QRP 5W to a 9-ele Tonna.
G6GVI/P
on holiday in the Cotswolds
G6NHU
Dreadful conditions today compared to yesterday. Very hard going, gave up early.
G7HNO
Some QSB - Came on for two hours to give away a few points
G7RIH
Very good some good DX
G8HGN
Very quiet on Saturday from UK except for big /p's, better to EU Sunday more activity. 2 1/2 hrs on Sat, 3 1/2 on Sun.
G8LZE
Low activity and finished early for GP. Didn't think conditions were that bad. DF got away.
G8SRC/P
We originally planned to enter the 24 hour section. If it could go wrong or break it did. This led us to quit or try again with a 6h only entry. There was lots of QSB.
GM4JR/P
Conditions avaerage. Low turnout, lots of regulars missing. Lots of QRM from QRO station reducing usable band to minimum.
GM6MD/P
Band conditions were poor and activity was lower than last year. Weather was cold but sunny.
M0CNP
Could only manage a few hours this year but enjoyed the experience so will be doing it more earnestly next year
M0MCG/P
Conditions fairly average. Weather was good but big downpour at end of contest - typical Dartmoor weather!
M0MCV
Poor activity on Saturday better on Sunday
M0MDG/P
Average conditions thanks for points
M0TAZ

Poor conditions from this QTH. Late start due to last minute call offs. Great fun and stayed on after the May test to give points away to the backpackers.

Fantastic day to climb the hill and made some great contacts!
