October 432MHz-248GHz UHF Contest Results 2010

Yet again, wet weather & strong winds caused antenna & mast problems. Conditions were reported as being flat but a few stations had some luck with the odd few DX contacts. Across all bands, the entry level was slightly down on last year but generally activity was higher with QSO totals being slightly up.

Notable QSO's were G3CKR/P (IO93) matching their 2009 best DX on 1.2GHz at 917km to JO50. G3XDY (JO02) worked 750km to JO50 on 2.3GHz & M1CRO/P (JO01) managed a respectable 634km QSO on 10GHz from their excellent take off on the East coast to JO44.

Congratulations go to overall Single Operator section winner John Quarmby G3XDY & Open section winners, Colchester Contest Group of Colchester Radio Amateurs. Both retain their leading positions &were very clear winners by a substantial margin. Congratulations also go to runners up Matthew Cabban G0XDI & Five Bells CG & also to all band leaders, runners-up & other certificate winners.

Checklogs gratefully received from G3NYY/P, G6GVI & G6NHU
Comments from the logs:
G0BWC/P
Not many stations on. All band covered from 432MHz to 24GHz
G0DJA
Wet and windy 10GHz: Rain scatter helped make the contact
G0JJG
432MHz: Dodgy weather and similar conditions. 1.3GHz: Most contacts during Trophy contest, very few and far between on Sunday
G0XDI
432MHz: Conditions Awful but some DX worked 1.3GHz: Conditions Awfull
G1ONE/P
3 hours on Saturday
G3CKR/P
Very very wet one of the strongest winds. Started 11.30pm bent the steel pole on 13cms, dish only 3m off the ground so we stop took it all down qrt. Got very wet for 3 hours then the sun came out!! Very few g stations. Should have not stop Sunday.
G3NYY/P
Fairly flat, but the propagation was there. I made just 15 QSOs and this included 7 countries! Support for this contest in the UK was extremely poor.
G3XDY
432MHz: Activity seemed low, but some reasonable DX to be had 1.3GHz: First full 24hr contest with new SSPA - worked flawlessly Conditions slightly above normal - OK2A worked on tropo not AS 2.3GHz: Nice Aircraft Reflection QSO for best DX. Conditions about average. 3.4GHz: Activity rather limited, conditions average System seemed slightly down on normal performance 5.7GHz: Average tropo, some RS available which helped Low activity, particularly in the UK 10GHz: Tropo normal, some reasonable RS on mid distance contacts.
G3YJR
432MHz: I only heard two stations! 1.3GHz: Conditions nothing wonderful but nice to get a couple of Dutch contacts.
G4LDR
Very poor (heavy rain at times)
G5B
432MHz: Station used to lift contacts to 23 & 13cms during trophy event - Sporadic operation only - no serious attempt at 70cms. 1.3GHz: Some good to average conditions around which died off as the rain front moved through returning again once the front had moved through. Some UK stations got away - some fairly local - Skeds generally worked well. KST a boon at these frequencies. 2.3GHz: Conditions as 23cms - new system seemed to work well. KST & Sked making was again essential on this band.
G6GVI
Giving away points to anyone I could hear.
G6NHU
Checklog only, worked all I could hear! Must get a beam sorted out :-)
G8CUL
Just giving a few points away...
G8DOH
Rain, Fog, wind and very few UK stations heard. Slightly better condx. in last few hours.
GW8NEY/P
Faulty preamp sequencer with eventual demise of the preamp! Very poor conditions and activity low. QRV to support 23cm trophy only.
M1CRO/P
432MHz: Monsoon WX & high winds made for a physical challenge. Nearly 3hrs late but the gear behaved & we worked what we could hear. 1.3GHz: Condx variable. Several got-aways. Few appeared to be tuning the band. 2.3GHz: Bit of a BDQ lash-up. Saturday's flooded dish-feed dried up some by Sunday. 5.7GHz: Worked quite well when we could find QSO partners. 10GHz: Hard work sometimes to maintain skeds. Some rain-scatter on Sunday AM.
24GH
z: ~Still~ trying to get across the Water...
