144MHz Low Power 2011

The contest this year saw 36 entries which is considerably down on last year. Only 8 of the 36 logs were error free but hopefully now with the release of UBN's, entrants will have a better idea as to how & where errors are made. It still looks as if some people are actually making the errors while transcribing a hand written log to either logging software or the online log generator.

Conditions were generally reported as being poor with the contest being hard going.

The A1 Contest Group win the Open section by a large margin with the Colchester Contest Group in runner-up position. In the Single Operator Fixed section, Bryn G4DEZ wins with David G4DHF as runner-up. Chris G0HFX/P wins the Single Operator Others section with Rhys GW4RWR/P in close second.

Congratulations go to the following

  • Winner - Open section - A1 Contest Group (G4ZAP/P)
  • Runner-up - Open section - Colchester CG of Colchester RA (G0VHF/P)
  • Winner - Single Operator Fixed section - Bryn Llewellyn (G4DEZ)
  • Runner-up - Single Operator Fixed section - David Johnson (G4DHF)
  • Winner - Single Operator Others section - Chris Parnell (G0HFX/P)
  • Runner-up - Single Operator Others section - Rhys Thomas (GW4RWR/P)
  • 2E0BMO, PE1EWR, M6TBY & MW6OXO/P will also receive certificates.

Check log gratefully received from M0GYQ/P

Comments from the logs:
2E0BMO
Condx average but quiet after the 1st hour. Tnx to the French for some DX. No stations in GM, GI, EI heard.
G0CDA
Only QRV for just over an hour, missed main activity in first few hours.Dire activty!
G0CER
Hard going, QSB deep
G0HFX/P
Beautiful sunny day for setting up-condx flatish to north, but reasonable into F.-CW rules the day for the only GM Tks all for Q`s de Chris For TDARC
G0VOK
Really tough conditions and missed most of the backpackers due to starting late.
G3MEH
Conditions average. Good to work many portables but a bit more support from fixed stations would have been good.
G3WIR/P
Generally good weather with a little rain. Going very slow didn't seem too many stations round. We did operated completely on solar power
G3YJR
GB3ANG the only Scottish station heard.
G4DEZ
Reasonable activity again
G4DHF
Difficult conditions with some deep QSB, but there were "windows" of DX working opportunities, which provided some good multipliers.
G4HGI
Slow slow after first 2 hrs 4 hrs op
G4SIV
A pleasure to be able to use the QTH of our leader G4ODA whilst he was on DxPed/Holiday in Iceland. A truely unselfish gesture. Thanks. Band conditions poor and hard going exacerbated by local QRM.
G4VPD
hard work is an understatement!!! awful conditions!!
G4XPE
Poor conditions with long periods of deep qsb.
G4ZAP/P
Band conditions poor didn't get the usual activity from F but general activity was good.
G7HAH
Good luck everybody!
G8APB
Dire
G8ONK
Good activity, only able to do an hour.
G8SRC/P
Power output from TX was monitored with a bird power meter.
GW3ATZ
Last 4 hours. poor condx/activity. Need to move to higher ground..!!
GW4RWR/P
Nice to have a French contest in progress. My 5Ah SLAB for the 25W amp expired after 3hrs, so 3W for remainder. Contemplated camping out, but took a headtorch to get home by 0020.
M0GYQ/P
Lots of people being on holiday made this contest a real chore. I'd like to see it moved either back to its original slot or to September when more people are likely to be around and there is at least the possibility of better propagation.
M0MST/P
Awful activity, weather was bad in times, worst one to date :(, static rain cancelled operating for around 1hr and gave up at 7.30
M6TBY
New antenna test from hoime QTH. Lots of local QRM, next time I take this portable. Conditions dropped off at 19:00 hrs local time.
MU3ZLQ
Thanks to all once again
MW6OXO/P
Weather kept changing and winds were strong thanks for the points
PE1EWR
Activity seems to decrease over the years: two GW's heard but not worked!
