432MHz Low Power 2011

A good entry level for this contest with 32 logs plus 1 check log received. A total of 125 different callsigns appear in logs meaning the Open Section winners worked 65% of all possible stations. Logging standards were improved this year with 19 of the 32 entries having error free logs.

Conditions = poor, activity = poor, weather = poor. Actually, the weather was typical of a contest day in August with strong winds & heavy rain reported by several entrants. This can surely mean that there is plenty of room for improvement next year!

In the Open & Single Operator Fixed sections, the winners are ahead by a large margin. In the Single Operator Others section the top two positions are very close, the winner managing to gain a couple of extra multipliers to get ahead of the runner-up.

The A1 CG retain their winning position in the Open section with the Five Bells CG as runners-up. David, G4DHF wins the Single Operator Fixed section with Roger G3MEH as runner-up. In the Single Operator Others section, Ron GW4EVX wins with Chris G0HFX as runner-up.

Congratulations to all certificate winners as below.

  • Winner - Open section - A1 Contest Group (G4ZAP/P)
  • Runner-up - Open section - Five Bells CG (M1MHZ)
  • Winner - Single Operator Fixed section - David Johnson (G4DHF)
  • Runner-up - Single Operator Fixed section - Roger Piper (G3MEH)
  • Winner - Single Operator Others section - Ron Price (GW4EVX/P)
  • Runner-up - Single Operator Others section - Chris Parnell (G0HFX/P)
  • PE1EWR, 2E0BMO, M6OXO & 2E0TXT/P will also receive certificates.

Check log gratefully received from M5HFJ.

Comments from the logs:
2E0BMO
Condx poor, very wet this morning and rained on and off throughout the contest. Not much activity either.
G0CDA
Giving pts away for half an hour to who I could find, which was not a lot. Very bad conditions
G0CER
Only got on for last 30min. very quiet
G0HFX/P
Dire condx - appalling wx--Torrential rain, thunder & lighting took 5 hours to pack up and still got soaked. condx to N terrible better to F similar to yesterday. Tks to all for Q`s de Chris --- TDARC
G0VOK
Very hard going.
G1HLT
Below average conditions all beacons down. Static and QSB becoming a problem later in the contest.
G3MEH
Average conditions, poor activity. No QSO in last half hour.
G3NYY/P
Dire conditions. Activity extremely low. Weather - heavy rain at times. Was only active for an hour and a half. Worked all I could hear. JO03 not heard - although I know Bryn was active. -) Power = 20 watts output (the maximum available from the FT857D on 70cm).
G3WIR/P
Generally good weather with a little rain. Going very slow didn't seem too many stations around. We did operated completely on solar power
G3YJR
I worked a few locals.
G4CMT/P
Rain stopped play at 1hr45. Bacon sarnies went down well
G4DEZ
Very low activity
G4DHF
Really difficult going with some deep QSB, but there were "windows" of DX, which gave some interesting multipliers.
G4URT/P
Nice and sunny setting up. Then squally showers for a couple of hours. Conditions flat.
G4ZAP/P
Flat propagation conditions; unusually for this contest everything worked!
G8APB
Double Dire
G8LZE
No JO01?
G8ONK
Conditions dire, activity low, no GM,GD,GI.
G8ZRE
Token entry day after sons wedding!!!
GW3ATZ
Very poor conditions and activity. Megaphone on ladder in garden would have been as good..!!
GW4EVX/P
Very windy on the hilltop but stayed dry. Didn't start until 0900, three hours is plenty long enough!
M1MHZ
Conditions much improved on Saturday when only a weak and watery ON beacon could be heard. Some self inflicted QRM from a "less good" choice of 2nd LNA. Overall reasonably pleased with the result but could do better :)
M6OXO
DEAD gave up after an hour just getting 9lb of QSB, thanks for the points
MW0DSZ/P
Mediocre start conditions then deteriorated, so did the weather.
