Low Power Contest 2017

This year there was reliable propagation on 40m for most of the day resulting in plenty of inter-UK and Eu contacts.  80m was busy in the first hour and in the last 30 minutes.  20m proved to be a useful third band with Eastern/Southern European, Russian, Balkan and Scandinavian contacts in the logs, plus a sprinkling of DX from 3B8, UA9, and W.

Total entries were up by two thirds from last year, mainly in the fixed station sections.  There was a threefold rise in non-UK entries but a disappointing low number of UK&CD portables taking part, the 3W section was down by one from 2016 and the 10W section only maintained last year's total of eight by virtue of several non-UK portables taking part.  This contest is ideal for single-op portable as complex antennas are not required and there is a one hour break for lunch, so why not give it a go in 2018?

In the fixed sections, the 10W winner is G6XX (G4FAL) with F/G4BJM the leading non-UK and the 3W section winner is G4FNL followed by DL4CF as the leading non-UK.  In the two portable sections, G3GWB/P (G4CZB) heads the 10W section with EI7GY/P the leading non-UK and G4ARI/P winning the 3W section.

G6XX, G3GWB/P, G4FNL and G4ARI/P are respectively awarded the 1930 Committee Cup, the Houston-Fergus Trophy, the HFCC Trophy and the Southgate Trophy.
