Low Power Contest 2018

The total number of entrants was well down compared to last year mainly due to a reduction in overseas participation, particularly from eastern Europe.  This was to be expected with propagation on 20m very poor and for those without the benefit of a beam antenna contacts were confined to a few local or near continental stations.  The only DX stations in the logs are a K1 and a VU2.  As usual 80m was busy in the first hour but many valuable points were also gained in the last hour on this band.  40m was reliable for inter-UK and Eu throughout the day.

Leading the 10W Fixed section is G3TBK followed by G4FAL in second and DL9ZOG the leading non-UK station.  The 3W Fixed section is headed by G3VIP who moves up from third last year, with G4GIR in second place.  DL0RD (op DL3ECQ) is the leading non-UK station.

First place in the 10W Portable section, moving up from third last year, is Gloucester AR&ES G2HX/P (ops M0NQN and M0XAC), followed by Aberdeen ARS GM3BSQ/P (ops MM0JOM and GM0WIJ).  EI7GY/P gains a certificate as the leading non-UK station.  The 3W Portable section had the closest possible finish without a dead heat, G4CWH/P leads the table just five points ahead of regular entrant G4ARI/P.

G3TBK, G2HX/P, G3VIP and G4CWH/P are respectively awarded the 1930 Committee Cup, the Houston-Fergus Trophy, the HFCC Trophy and the Southgate Trophy.

Andy G4PIQ ran just 10mW out to an inverted V dipole on 40m and asks how many correctly copied his exchange of 0W01.  Answer, nine out of seventeen, just over 50%!
