RoLo 2018
Since the change from post codes to locators there has been a steady increase in entries back to the levels seen a decade ago. With locators the contest is now more attractive to entrants from outside the UK&CD which gives great potential for further growth, so thanks to all the non-UK entrants for taking part and adding to the range of different locators exchanged. This year there were 59 different callsigns in the logs.
In this contest the majority of errors are in the received locator, however some entrants will see an error code of 'PostCode not transferred to next contact' in their UBN. This occurs when there is a difference between the sent exchange and what is recorded in the log as being sent. It appears this is often due to macros not being set up correctly when the logging PC is used to send the exchange. With this type of error, peculiar to RoLo, careful analysis of each error is required during adjudication to determine if sender or receiver is at fault and it is this process that takes up the most time.
In first place with 510 points is David Cree G3TBK followed by Graham Bubloz G4FNL with 500 points. In third place with 480 points and the highest scoring logs with no errors are Bryn Tinton G3SWC and Tim Raven G4ARI. They are therefore jointly awarded the G3XTJ Memorial Trophy. There were eight other error-free logs from EI7GY, G3KAF, G3OGP, G3RFH, G4OGB, G4PVM, G4ZFE and M0NQN.
There was a tie for the leading non-UK entry with certificates awarded to both Joe Ryan EI7GY and Kees de Wit PA5WT.
The winner of the G5MY Trophy for the highest aggregate score over the two RoLo contests in 2018 is Sandra Morley G0MCV.
The number of QSOs made in the last 30 minutes continues to rise with 17% of the total this year.
