Last years winner of the Single Operator session, David Millard, repeated his success but this year David's identity was disguised by his new call sign M0GHZ. Second place in this section was claimed by Michael Wright, G0GCI. Over recent years the "All Other" section has been dominated by two stations namely the South Birmingham Society, G8OHM, and M1CRO/P. G8OHM came 2nd in 1995 & 1998 and 1st in 1996, 1997 & 1999, M1CRO/P were 1st in 1998 and 2nd in 1999. This 2000 contest was won by M1CRO/P with G8OHM coming second.
Poor band conditions were blamed by most entrants for the lack of activity and although five different countries were active including 17 stations from the Netherlands and 19 different locator squares featured in the logs. This reduced activity was borne out by reduced numbers of entrants in the Single Operator section. Even so there were significant dx contacts made the best of which was G8OHM's 709km contact with DF4UE. Four other entrants had contacts with stations 500km distant and in total nine entrants had contacts in excess of 400km. The standard of logging was very good with flawless logs being submitted by G1OGY, G3YJR, G8HGN, M0GHZ and M1CRO.
PE1EWR's continued support of RSGB 70cm contests was rewarded by a certificate for leading overseas entrant. James Beatwell won certificates for being both the leading station using 25w or less to a single antenna and also the leading Novice licensee.
Ian, G4OUT.

2E1GUA - conditions were very bad, cold and not many stations to work.
M0GHZ - conditions seemed relatively flat for all but the second contest, (which was terrible!), although I generally worked the same dx stations in each contest. I have suffered high noise levels on the band for several years; this disappeared when I changed my PC monitor for a new one, looks as though it was radiating while in standby mode. It's great to be able to hear the dx again!
G8OHM - conditions and activity poor.
G8HGN - Session 1 flat band reasonable activity. Sessions 3 & 4 real struggle to make contacts on poor band. Session 5 surprisingly low activity for a weekend, no ON's worked, flat band.
G6FQZ - session 1 surprised to get two PE's very quiet in west country. Session 2 why so bad this night? Session 5 grim especially without preamp.
G1OGY - Session 1 conditions average to poor, much QSB. No continentals heard. Session 4 Stuck at QRL Late Start - All gone! Session 5 seemed very thin on the ground. Windy too!
G0GCI - the conditions were above average for the first session but below average for the second. The fifth started well with the best propagation to the East and West but not much to the North. After the initial rush there were no more stations to work. Saturday, close to Christmas is probably not a good night for a cumulative contest.
G3MEH - session 5 the contest was relatively well supported by the mainland European stations, possibly because this session was, unusually, held on a Saturday evening. It was poorly supported by UK stations. I worked no new station in the last hour, and the only new station I heard during that time was a 'G' who added to my frustration by coming up a few minutes before the end and working two Dutch stations up to the end of the contest.
G3YJR - Session 2 Pretty flat. Fortunately the yagi was still on the pole following the recent gales. Nothing heard to the North of Hull or west of Sheffield.
