First 70MHz 2001

Activity levels in this event were well down on the previous year with only 52 stations appearing in the logs. The number of entrants was slightly down and a number of stations with reasonable scores failed to submit entries. Conditions were poor and many logging errors occurred on the longer distance contacts. One meteor scatter contact took place between the Isle of Man and Slovenia.

Congratulations go to:

These stations together with those marked (*) will receive certificates.

Very useful check logs are acknowledged from GW3HWR and G0WJR/M

Comments from the Logs:

S51DI Heard many bursts from GD4GNH, and only few from other stations. Surprised on QSO, but very satisfied. "Tau Draconids" MS QSO.

GM4DIJ Not much heard. I'm coming to the conclusion there are a lot of feeble powered stations using makeshift antennas. Could have done with the previous day's aurora.

GW5NF 2hrs would have been long enough! Very slow

G1OGY Well! What can you say? Perhaps too close to the Cumulatives? Weather too 'nice'? Pretty disappointing band occupancy!

G4OUT Very quiet. Heard several regulars making DX contacts but not calling CQ. Heard one working a GM but heard nothing from the GM.

G4RFR Very slow going after the first hour. Many people probably at Sandown.

GW3HWR Normal result for 70 MHz out here! Only 2 stations were consistent throughout the contest: GW5NF, who is local, and GD4GNH, who is in a class of his own. I heard the usual twitterings in the noise but nothing much was workable and only one station on CW.

GD4GNH Poor activity levels, one good MS QSO though.
