Variable weather conditions greeted the twenty-nine entrants for this contest. Some contestants experienced static rain for part of the contest whilst others had fine sunny conditions with little or no wind. Band conditions were also variable with deep QSB for some. Band conditions appeared to improve once the ‘main’ contest (VHF NFD) had finished. Several contestants remarked that it was very noticeable that the background noise appeared to drop when VHF NFD had finished.
The accuracy of logging was very variable in this session of the Backpackers. Two stations managed to turn in perfect logs – well done. Another seven stations managed to lose less than 2% of their claimed scored - an excellent achievement. At the other end of the scale, the least accurate log had nearly 34% of claimed points deducted. The average points lost were 7%.
The top of the 3W Single Operator section was very close with less than 1% of the overall score separating the two stations. The superior logging accuracy of G4HUN/P was the deciding factor in determining the top two places in this section.
All winners and runners-up will receive certificates. All Backpackers certificates will be dispatched once all (144MHz and 50MHz) Backpackers contests have been adjudicated.
