144 MHz UK Activity Contests 2005 / Club Championship Results

2005 was yet another growth year for this series of 144 MHz contests - the number of entrants is 50% bigger than in 2004, and 100% bigger than 2003. The club element is also increasingly popular with now 17 clubs or societies represented, and over 50 individuals submitting scores for their club. The 2006 events have already begun, showing maintained activity. This is a very encouraging trend, especially as some VHF contest events have had reduced support in recent years. The other UKAC events do not fare quite so well, so don't forget about the other bands on the other Tuesdays in the month.

Once again the results were published monthly on the VHFCC website, allowing entrants to see positional changes in the results table throughout the year. Any feedback whether this actually provided an incentive for yourself or fellow club members would be appreciated.

At the top of the Single Operator section, Bryn G4DEZ once again dominated, winning 11 out of the 12 individual events. Roger G3MEH also repeats his second place finish. All change in the Open section though, with Hilton MW0OPS/P improving his performance in previous years claiming a well deserved win. Wythall Radio Club, G1WAC, reached their highest position in this contest, coming second. The early 2006 results also show that activity in the winter months is a very useful method of building up points.

The Club Championship also sees a change in the winner this year, with Aylesbury Vale RS running away with the lead, with De Montfort University ARS in second place. Colchester RAC managed to get about 10 club members on the air during 2005 - will anyone beat that this year?

This year, the leading Foundation licensee is Bob M3RCV, who wins the Guildford Cup. Congratulations to all of the winners and runners up, and thanks to everyone that took part.
