1^st 144MHz Backpackers Contest of 2006

Twenty-one stations braved the rain and the wind to compete in the first 144MHz Backpacker contest of 2006. Band conditions were poor with very few of the stations able to break the 500km barrier.

The standard of logging was better than usual for a Backpacker Contest with an average of 11% of points lost. Five logs had no errors at all - well done! At the other end of the scale, the least accurate log had over 49% of points deducted! The correct copying of call signs and locators caused the most problems to many stations. Also, please remember to log QSO times in GMT.

The 10W Single Operator section was won by Dave Hewitt, G8ZRE/P. The runner-up in this section was Nick Gregory, G0HIK/P.

The 3W Multi-operator section was won by the West Kent ARS, G1WKS/P with the South Derby & Ashby Wolds club, G0SRC/P in second place.

The 3W Single Operator section was won by Steve Brown, M0SGB/P with Charlie Jordan, GW0PZO/P as the runner-up.

There were no entries for the 10W Multi-operator section.

The leading Intermediate Station certificate was won by Mark Dumpleton, 2E0NCG/P.
