5^th 144MHz Backpackers Contest of 2006

Heavy rain, high winds and fog - this contest had it all. What it did not have was good DX. Most entrants reported only average band conditions with deep QSB.

The standard of logging was much better in this Backpacker session with an average of only 8% of points lost. Six stations managed to turn in logs with less than 2% points loss - well done to those stations. Also, over half of the entrants lost less than 5% of their score - well done!

In the 10W Multi-operator section the Verulam ARC, M0TMR/P, were the comfortable winners with the Wigan-Douglas Valley ARS, G3BPK/P, in second place.

The 10W Single Operator section was won by Derek Gilbert, G0NFA/P, with Tony Judge, G1ARU/P, in second place.

In the 3W Multi-operator section, the West Kent Amateur Radio Society, G1WKS/P, were the winners with the Bath Radio Class Group, G0FUW/P, in second place.

The 3W Single Operator section was won by Charlie Jordan, GW0PZO/P, with Tim Raven, G4ARI/P, as the runner-up.
