432MHZ UK Activity Contest 2006

Thirty-four different stations sent in logs for this contest in 2006. That's up nearly 50% on 2005! The Tuesday night activity contests are still growing in popularity.

The second Tuesday of every month unfortunately didn't coincide with any major openings on the 70cm band this year. Nevertheless the leading stations in all sessions worked plenty of European DX.

The most popular session was August with 16 entrants, when numbers were bolstered by three stations going out portable.

Results were posted on the VHFCC website monthly during the year, with the `scores so far' being available prior to the next session. I hope this proved to be useful and interesting for entrants.

The Single Operator Fixed section had a clear winner - Bryn Llewellyn, G4DEZ. Bryn entered and won all twelve sessions. Only Paul Selwood, G3YDY, came close to beating Bryn in any session (June). Paul took second place overall.

The Open section was made up of a mixture of multi-op club entries and single-op portables. South Birmingham Radio Society, G8OHM, was the clear winner again this year, as they have been every year since the contest began. However Reigate Amateur Transmitting Society, G5LK, won both sessions that they entered (July and August). It's a pity they didn't enter more sessions, as we could have had some good competition for the top spot here. Remember only the scores for your best 6 sessions count, so you don't have to be active in every session to win. Reigate took second place overall. Credit should be given to Ron Price, operating as GW4EVX/P, for being the leading single-op portable station, who was active in five sessions.

The 2007 432MHz UK Activity Contest starts on Tuesday 9^th January, and continues on the second Tuesday of every month as usual. Please note entry rules have changed this year to assist adjudicators in producing results on a monthly basis. Entries to all UKAC contests will only be accepted in electronic format. This means that paper logs submitted by post will no longer be valid for these contests. A web-based entry system is available to assist those that log on paper (details at [1]http://www.rsgbcc.org/vhf/entry.html ). Secondly, the entries must be received not later than 10 days after the date of each activity session.
