Oct 2006 UHF/SHF Contest Results

For once we had some good conditions to go along with the contest. Late on Saturday night and early on Sunday morning a path opened to Southern France & Spain, at least as high as 1.3 GHz, and then Sunday morning brought some elevated ducting into OK and the neighbouring areas of Germany on all bands to 10 GHz. There weren't large numbers of stations to be worked on the higher bands from there, but DM7A, DL0GTH and some of the OK stations feature in a number of logs.

The Colchester Contest Group (M1CRO/P) suffered a large number of generator problems over the weekend and eventually packed up an hour before the end and therefore missed the best of the conditions. This undoubtedly helped the South Birmingham RS to oust the Colchester team from the lead, but this would probably have happened anyhow, given the very strong showing from the South Birmingham Team on some bands this time around. The South Birmingham team took out new higher powered equipment on 24 GHz and 47 GHz, but this wasn't enough for them to work longer distances than usual on these high bands.

Congratulations also go to John Quarmby, G3XDY for his usual outstanding all band performance in the Single Operator Fixed Section, to Bryn Llewellyn, G4DEZ who takes the Runner-Up slot and to Pete Millard, 2E0NEY who is the leading Intermediate Station.
