Christmas Cumulatives 2006

This contest provides a great reason to make that first trip to the shack after Christmas day. It is a unique event that allows you to make QSOs on up to four bands in four two-hour sessions. A good score on at least three bands is required to score well overall.

Entries were slightly down on last year, but in line with previous years' numbers. However there was a big increase in multi-band entrants this year. 64% of entrants entered 3 bands or more, as opposed to just 28% last year. 4m entries were up by 75% on last year.

6m

Very little DX was worked on 6m, but GM4ODA/P on Colonsay Island (IO66) provided a nice surprise for some on the first two days. Bryn Llewellyn G4DEZ was the leading SF station and Dave Heathcote operating as G0AOD/P was the sole entrant in the Open section.

4m

4m is always the quietest of the four bands, but it offers an opportunity to boost your overall points score nonetheless. Steve White G3ZVW managed to make QSOs in every session using FM only. The band was particularly quiet on the first day, but picked up a bit for the remaining days. Pat Moore G3IKR was the clear leader in the SF section, with Dave Heathcote operating as G0AOD/P again the only entrant in the Open section.

2m

Entrants on the first day were rewarded by some good conditions, with openings to OK and HB9. HB9RDE provided the best DX for a number of entrants, and was even worked with 10W to an HB9CV in the loft! Conditions were still reasonable on the second day, but tailed off for the final two days.

Bryn Llewellyn G4DEZ was band leader in the SF section. Two stations entered the Open section; Hilton Willott MW0OPS and Stewart Wilkinson G0LGS. Both entered on all four days, sometimes from home and sometimes from a portable site. Hilton came out as band leader in this section.

70cms

It was the second day that provided the best conditions on 70cms. An opening to OE gave several stations QSOs over 1000km.

Roger Piper G3MEH was band leader in the SF section. Stewart Wilkinson operating as G0LGS and G0LGS/P, and Dave Heathcote operating as G0AOD/P fought it out in the Open section, with Stewart coming out on top.

Overall Winners

Congratulations to Bryn Llewellyn G4DEZ who takes the top spot in the SF section this year with a four-band entry. Last year's winner Roger Piper G3MEH takes second place with a three-band entry.

Dave Heathcote operating as G0AOD/P was out portable every day, operating on three bands. He was the only portable station on 6m and 4m, which secured him the overall win in the Open section. Stewart Wilkinson G0LGS(/P) took second place
