1st 144MHz Backpackers Contest of 2008

Thirty-five stations endured changeable band conditions with deep QSB to compete in the first 144MHz Backpacker contest of 2008. For some, the weather was kind with light winds and a warm sun. Others were not so lucky with a cold wind and light rain hampering operations.

The overall standard of logging was poor with an average of 13.4% of points lost. Two logs had no errors at all. At the other end of the scale, the least accurate log had almost 73% of points deducted. The correct copying of call signs and locators caused the most problems to many stations. Also, please remember to log QSO times in UTC.

The 10W Single Operator section was won for the second year by Paul Selwood, G8BGV/P. The runner-up in this section was Bob Edgar, G0KYS/P.

The 3W Multi-operator section was won by the Malvern Hills `B', GW4IDF/P with the West Kent ARS, G3WKS/P in second place.

The 3W Single Operator section was won by Nick Gregory, G0HIK/P with Anthony Jay, G8JAY/P as the runner-up.

The 10W Multi-operator section was won by GW4RWR/P with last year's winner, G0HDV/P in second place.
