5th 144MHz Backpackers Contest of 2008

Dry but cold weather was the order of the day for this contest. Some continental DX was available although it was difficult to work through the QRM created by the September 144MHz Contest. Once the QRO stations had closed down, the weaker continental stations were workable by the Backpackers. Most entrants reported reasonable band conditions.

The standard of logging was poor with an average of 13% of points lost. Almost half of the entrants lost 5% or less of their score - well done! At the other end of the scale, three stations lost in excess of 30% of their score due to inaccurate recording of information.

In the 10W Multi-operator section the Addiscombe ARC, G4ALE/P, was the winner with Ken Coxon, G0HDV/P, in second place.

The 10W Single Operator section was won by Paul Selwood, G8BGV/P, with Tony Judge, G1ARU/P, in second place.

In the 3W Multi-operator section Tim Raven, G4ARI/P was the winner with James Day, G6FRS/P in second place.

The 3W Single Operator section was won by Steven Brown, M0SGB/P, with Tony Jay, G8JAY/P as the runner-up.
