March 1998 144/432MHz Contest

A weekend of atrocious weather and crummy radio conditions for the second consecutive year. Was this responsible for yet fewer entries, or is this contest dying on its feet? Please let us have your thoughts and comments about the format.

The weather was probably not quite as bad as last year, as there were no reports of broken equipment, although G0KYS was particularly unfortunate in having his aerial stolen while unattended overnight.

GI3XRQ went out as a very casual entry to test their generator ahead of hf contests, and came back impressed by what a modest site and modest equipment can achieve, especially on 70cms – many of the operators had only ever worked the local repeater. We would love to see a few more clubs emulating their experiment. Elsewhere on 70cms, G4PIQ thought he had 2x26 yagis on the end of his feeder, but the results suggest otherwise!
