1998 432MHz Backpackers Contest No. 1

Most entrants enjoyed the first 432MHz Backpackers contest. However, conditions were not good and the weather was reported by many stations as typical bank holiday weather (awful). The contest was very slow going for most stations until the 432MHz Trophy started one hour after the start of the Backpackers event. Even then, it was hard work to work the more powerful stations due to deep and rapid QSB.

Congratulations to 2W1GMA/P for being the highest placed novice in the contest. Also congratulations to the Bristol Contest Group, MW1BCG/P for winning the 10 watt multi-operator section, to G8BJG/P for winning the 3 watt multi-operator section, to G8JAY/P for winning the 10 watt single operator section and finally to MW1CFI/P for winning the 3 watt single operator section. All winners and runners-up will receive certificates.
