144 MHz CW Contest January 1999

Despite uninspiring conditions, G3VQO/P describing the event as more like telepathy than telegraphy, entries for this contest were up 50% up on last year and 3 stations braved the January weather to go out portable. There were very few stations active in Europe during the day with only one featuring in the best DX column.

The number of entries received via disk or email is steadily increasing with all but 3 logs received in this way. The results show a Scottish monopoly. Congratulations to GM4WLL/P operated by David and Mike Dobbs who, despite a failing battery in their keyer, brass pounded their way to winning the Open section and to Stewart Cooper GM4AFF in winning in the Single-Op fixed section. Linda Everitt G0TIB takes the low power honours.
