RSGB Contest Results 2nd 1.8MHz Contest 2013

This year the general consensus was that conditions were poor and activity was slightly down on the previous year.  DX conditions were particularly poor with very few North American stations logged.  One reason for this seems to be the general build-up of local noise on 160m making DX stations hard to work.  Several contestants noted the DX that got away and ones they couldn’t hear.  Like last year quite a few UK stations with good QSO totals did not send in a log.  

Congratulations go to GM3POI who wins the Victor Desmond Trophy being well out in the lead of the UK Section.  Placement for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th was very tight with only 10 points separating all three places.  G3LDI narrowly took second place with G4FNL third and G3U fourth.  

GM4ZUK takes the Maitland Trophy which is awarded to the Scottish entrant with the highest aggregate number of points in the February and November 160m events.

Participation in the Non-UK Section was significantly down probably reflecting the poor conditions and changes in some coinciding overseas contests.  EI5DI came out on top by a good margin, with 8S0DX in 2nd and DL2OM in third place.  

The standard of logging was extremely high.  Some overseas stations noted that they would like to see more UK participation, but some of this may have been due to conditions.
