1.8 Mhz `Club Calls ` AFS contest  2023

There was a similar number of entrants to 2022, in 2023 with 115 station entries for adjudication this year. A total of 48 club teams were represented, 13 teams in the General section and 35 in the Local club section. A total of 62 stations entered the SSB section and 45 entered the Mixed section.

Band conditions were poor at the start with high QRN  and deep QSB reported by many, partly due to a recent solar disturbance.  Many entrants reported the noise and generally poor conditions, but things improved later on. Stations with dipoles did best as ever, and many used jury rigged inverted L antennas, and some braved the cold with portable entries.

Congratulations again to Camb-Hams 'A' for again winning the David Hill G4IQM Memorial Trophy for the leading Club team, also the leading Local team, just ahead of Grimsby ARS `A', then Camb-Hams `B'.

De Montfort University ARS had the leading General club team score, followed by Harwell ARS `A', then Addiscombe ARC .

Congratulations to Andy G4PIQ for again winning the Ariel Trophy for 1st UK & CD station in the individual station competition. Second place also goes again to David M7W (G3TBK), followed by Chris G3SJJ, all in the mixed section. M0VFC headed the SSB only section, followed by M3E (G4CWH).

Logs were to a good standard, with just a few requiring rework. Several club stations failed to use the club GX/S/C prefix, and have been reminded. Thanks go again to Graham G4FNL who ran the bonus station GX6XX, making 153 contacts.
