HF Championship 2018

'Look, I've grown tired of winning all the time:  I should stand aside for a while and let someone else have a turn' said a serious contester, never, but this year's HF Championship saw two previous stalwarts (last time winner Graham, G4FNL, and third placed Steve, GW0GEI) drop out of the top ten and three new callsigns appear.  Being fed up with silverware will not be one of the reasons!

This also meant that the battle for the podium places was more closely fought than ever.  The title was only decided by the last contest in the series, and just 6 points separated the top two.

Many congratulations to Nick, G4FAL, who repelled the sternest of challenges from second placed Peter, M0RYB, to take the G2QT Cup for the first time since 2014.

Bryn, G3SWC, shows just how competitive the Championship can be at the top:  he scored maximum points in the first three events and by no means disgraced himself in the other contests he entered but could only manage third.  On the other hand, as Woody Allen said, '80% of success is showing up', and it is no co-incidence that the top two stations only missed one contest between them. Next year, the number of qualifying events in the championship will be increased to 11; showing up for each one surely gives you the best chance of a place on the leaderboard.
