1.3GHz Trophy Contest

This contest, together with the sister 13cm Trophy Contest, form the final two events in the VHF Championship. The frequencies involved mean that they are usually quiet events and 2021 was no exception.

There were 71 active stations (129 in 2020) and 28 squares worked (35 in 2020).  There were 24 entries (40 in 2020).    The number of entries compares badly with the last 23cm AC which attracted 118 entries.  What could be done to encourage people to enter this contest next year ?  Suggestions to VHFCC please.

Both weather (G3XDY 'luckily the tower did not fail') and poor radio conditions were condemned (G3PHO 'unbelievably poor conditions').  However the increased aircraft activity over 2020 did give some entrants AS opportunities not available last year ('M5TKA ' AS working great to EU').

This event is partly co-ordinated with a IARU Region 1 contest and the R1 logs were obtained and were used to assist with adjudication.

ODX in the Open Section was the G4ZTR/DR9A QSO at 644km and in SF the G3XDY/OL4A QSO at 867km.

• John, G3XDY, who won Single Operator Fixed section and, as highest scoring station, the VHF Contest Committee Cup

• Frank PE1EWR, who was leading overseas entrant
• Andy, M5TKA, who won the certificate for leading station using 25w into a single antenna.
• Matt 2E0MDJ who was leading Intermediate Station
