3rd Backpackers 2013

Twenty three entries were received for the 3rd Backpackers contest this year, which more than doubled the entry level last year.

Activity is always good during this contest, which runs concurrently with VHF NFD.   However conditions were good too, allowing some great distances to be worked even on low power.   Ten stations made QSOs over 1000km.   The South West French Contest Team TM7G in IN93 square provided ODX for 15 of the 23 entrants.   They were even worked from the Isle of Eigg by Richard Baker, GM8EXI/P, at 1552km.

Top spot in the Backpackers section was taken by Rhys Thomas, GW4RWR/P.   Runner-Up was Andrew Vare, G4XZL/P.

Paul Selwood, G8BGV/P, was the winner in the Hilltoppers section, with Tony Judge, G1ARU/P, taking second place.

After three sessions GW4RWR/P still leads the Backpackers section of the Championship, but G8BGV/P has now taken the lead in the Hilltoppers section.
