50MHz CW CONTEST - 23/6/19

After a bumper entry in 2018 with plenty of DX to be worked, the 2019 event can only be described as disappointing. The number of entries, at sixteen (eight in section AO, seven in section AR and one in section AL, plus three check logs) was less than half of last year's turnout - and there were no non-UK&CD entries this time. The most optimistic comment on conditions was 'average tropo' with four comments of 'very flat' being more typical. Entrants reported little or no sporadic E, although nine contacts appear to have been made using that mode. Comments on activity were correspondingly downbeat, with 'low' or 'very poor' reflecting median entrants' views. A total of 61 different valid calls appeared in the logs, from twelve DXCC entities and 27 big squares. The best DX was between G3TCU/P and LZ1XZ in KN21 square at 2316 km.

Congratulations to G3TCU/P (whose score was over twice that of the next highest scoring entrant), G3TBK/P and G0NRL who were leading stations in sections AO, AR and AL respectively.
