First 70MHz 2016

The increased activity on 70MHz is reflected in this contest. Both activity (147 stations, +9%) and entries (58, +18%) were significantly up on the contest in 2015. Stations were active in 21 UK squares from G, GD, GI, GM, and GW and additionally one ON and three PA0 stations were active. Generally portable stations had mild conditions though some described the conditions as windy.

Conditions were rated as "average " to "dire" with heavy QSB. Activity continued throughout the event with 46% of QSOs in the first hour, 31% in the second and 23% in the final hour. There were 15 QSOs greater than 500kms of which one was greater than 600kms. The furthest contact was between G3TCU/P and GM8OEG at 608kms. Logging accuracy was very good with only 2.9% of QSOs being disallowed.
