RSGB Contest Results 144MHz Backpackers Championship 2014
v4.145 by G4CLA

The participation level for this year’s 2m Backpackers series was maintained compared with previous years, but participants would undoubtedly agree that there would be no harm in an increase.  There was a drop in Foundation and Intermediate licensees trying these contests – a pity because certificates are available for these amateurs in both sections.  Perhaps entrants could persuade some of their newly licensed fellow club members who enjoy the UKACs to walk or drive up a local hill in 2015!

In the 3B section, Andrew Vare, G4XZL, operated from both England and Wales, to achieve first place and the Backpackers Trophy.  He established his dominance after the third contest in the series, and clinched the final result by coming top in the fifth. Steve Marsh, G4TCU, was not far behind with a creditable 2763 points.

Paul Selwood, G8BGV, won the 10H section, which he has done several times in recent years.  His position was unassailable after winning three of the first four events, but he entered the fifth and scored 1000 points there as well.  Tony Crake, G0OVA, was second, also participating in four of the five contests.

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to everyone for joining in the fun – we’ll see you next year!

Ed Taylor, GW3SQX
