RSGB Contest Results 1st 1.8MHz Contest 2012

Congratulations to G4PIQ who just pulled ahead of G4FNL, last years winner, to take the overall lead with a mixed mode entry, G4TSH was third overall and first with a CW only entry. M0ORO is the winner in the SSB category.

Overseas entry remains strong and EI5DI, yet again, taking the top spot with a CW only entry, OZ7EA was first mixed mode and LB9RE took the lead in the SSB category with just 9 QSO's.

The openings to JA / VK last year did not happen this year. A few worked into North America with VE1ZZ and K3ZM having the most QSOs with the UK. No other notable DX was logged.

This is the second year since the change to a CW/SSB mode event, comments from participants were somewhat mixed mainly with concerns about the lack of activity in the latter hour of the contest. There is some criticism of the introduction of the SSB section, likely justified given a significant number of the QSO's continue to take place on CW. The event coincides with the Dutch PACC multimode event which also increased the activity somewhat. The Contest Committee continues to keep recent changes to contests under review.

Entrants using SSB are reminded that the lower frequency limit for contacts within this contest is 1850kHz (i.e. a 'carrier' frequency above 1852kHz) and that UK entrants are limited by licence to 32 Watts within the allocated contest band.
