RSGB Contest Results 1st 1.8MHz Contest 2016

The 1st 1.8MHz Contest has been a firm favourite in the RSGB HF Contest Calendar for a number of years. This year the event reverted to CW only after an experimental period which included an SSB section. In addition the start time was moved forward by two hours with the intent of increasing European participation. The contest coincides with the Dutch PACC event which added significantly to the number of available stations. Another recent change was the inclusion of a non-UK category and this year saw a slight increase in the number of those entrants. Unfortunately there was a reduction in the number of UK entrants, though the adjudication process identified quite reasonable scoring UK stations who did not submit a log. This is a bit of a puzzle given that nearly all entrants last year participated in the Mixed Mode category.

Being an earlier start there was less opportunity for trans-atlantic DX, just VE1ZZ being logged by several UK stations. Congratulations to G4FNL who with the overall unassisted lead is awarded the Somerset Trophy. The leading assisted station is G3SJJ, whilst LY7M and EI5DI lead the overseas assisted / non-assisted categories respectively. A special mention for Brian, G4CIB entering his first 160m contest having been licensed for 47 years.
