AFS CONTEST (CW) 2012

This year, AFS CW fell on the earliest date possible for the second Sunday in the month – the 8th.  This seems to have caught a lot of people napping including (embarrassingly) this Committee which initially published the AFS dates incorrectly and had to revise in November 2011.  This late change may explain why we did not receive our usual listing in the SM3CER Contest Diary this year and may have contributed to the absence of the usual support we enjoy from the Continent, which was remarked upon by many.

Activity was certainly lower than usual with the leaders’ scores being down by around 10% compared with 2011; the number of stations submitting logs and the number of teams entering were both similarly down.  However, not all is doom and gloom ... Norfolk ARC managed to double its number of participants and entered three full teams.

The Contests Committee welcomes comments and suggestions about any of its events, which should be addressed to chairman@rsgbcc.org .  Queries or comments about this specific event should be addressed, in the first instance, to the adjudicator at the email address below.

Congratulations to the Three As Contest Group on their SEVENTH consecutive capture of the Edgware Trophy.  It’s getting to be a bit like the Eggheads ... when will anybody beat you? Congratulations also to the certificate winners:  Lichfield, who retain their second position, and De Montfort University ‘A’ team who take third place this year.

In the individual competition, Fraser Robertson, G4BJM, takes the Marconi Trophy by a small but sufficient margin over the pursuing hordes.  Alan Gray, G4DJX, and David Cree, G3TBK, receive certificates in recognition of their joint second placing.
