RSGB Contest Results AFS Contest PHONE 2022
v4.158 by G4CLA

Many entrants reported that 40m band conditions across the UK&CD were initially very good giving most the opportunity to get plenty of stations in the logs before moving to 80m where the propagation on that band then started to pick up.  Final individual scores were generally higher than last year and although the leaders did not reach last year's record numbers, overall the scores were more evenly spread geographically.  Some very good totals were also achieved by non-UK&CD entrants and the steady increase year on year in support from overseas has continued.  Only two DX contacts were in the logs, 5B4 and UA9, both on 40m.

Last year's clean sweep of the top three places in the General Club category by the Three As CG was not repeated, however their 'A' team did capture the top place again and thus the Flight Refuelling ARS Trophy for the fourth consecutive year.  In second place, up from fifth in 2021, is the RSGB Contest Club 'A' team and in third place is the GMDX 'A' team.

Since the team competition was divided into Local and General categories in 2018, the Local table has been headed by a team from Camb-Hams but this year they had to settle for second place.  Leading the table in 2022 is Cray Valley RS with Norfolk ARC retaining third place.

Certificates have also been awarded to the leading three, two and single station team entries in both club categories.

The Lichfield Trophy is awarded to the highest scoring UK&CD individual station and this year it goes to MD4K (GD4XUM) in the 400W section who, despite some problems on 80m, had a clear lead over G4PIQ in second and M4T (M0BEW) in third.

In the 100W section the leader is G0ORY followed by GX5BBC (G4HPE) in second and MW0CVT in third.

Running 10W maximum can be hard work but once again some good scores on both bands were achieved and G4A (G4TSH) leads this section with M0CUK in second place and G3SWC in third.

Both bands were profitable to those located outside the UK&CD, EI8KN is the leading station with PI4VPO (PA0JQD and PE1NYQ) in second, closely followed by PE1EWR in third.  Thanks again for the great support from overseas.

Band leaders are M3E (G4CWH) on 80m and MD4K (GD4XUM) on 40m.

This is the penultimate contest in the 21/22 Superleague, the final event is the 432MHz AFS on Sunday 6th February.
