3rd FT4 Contest 2019

The scoring for this final event in this short pilot series was changed following discussion at the HF Contest Forum held as part of the recent RSGB Convention. The total score comprises 1 point per QSO multiplied by the number of large locator squares worked. Contacts with the HQ stations earned 5 QSO points and added one locator square to the total.

In addition, the rules were amended to specify the penalty (5 QSO points) to be applied to any stations that transmitted during the 2 minute 'quiet' period before the start. Thankfully, this provision was not needed with everyone appearing to observe the 'Le Mans' start.

99 entries were received, a further improvement on the second event (89) and the first (62) with several stations 'dipping their toes' into FT4 contesting for the first time. The percentage of entries from non-UK entities was 38 (up from 28% last time)representing 16 DXCCs.

Deciding when a QSO was complete (and logging it at that point) remained problematic at times with yet again, most entrants losing several claimed QSOs as 'duplicates' or 'not in log'. The HFCC will be publishing some guidance notes to assist in this respect shortly.

Steve, G0CKP using the callsign M1X, who takes the honours in the UK 100w section and to Bryan, G3RLE in the runner up spot.

Carl, M0ICR, who triumphed in the 10w UK section and to Ian, G6TEQ in second place.

Stephano, 2E0FNU and Ian, 2E0DUE who were the highest placed Intermediate Licence entrants in the 100w and 10w sections respectively.

In the non-UK&CD sections

Ron, DL4ME who came out on top in the 100w section and Svend, OZ3OEU in second place.

Ray, DL9NCR, Bob, EI3GRB and Jack, YO3GNF who each won the single of the three 10w events that they entered.

The HFCC will be organising a series of 9 FT contests during 2020, all on a Monday and commencing at 20.00 local UK time, the inaugural event being on 17th February 2020. We look forward to seeing you all then.
