Many thanks for check logs received from G3GWB and G3WVG
RoLo 2017
The second running of this contest since the change from postcodes to locators resulted in a significant increase in entries from both the UK & CD and non-UK. There were a total of 63 stations in the logs of which 13 were non-UK. Although IO and JO locators were in the majority, there were quite a few others circulating to make accurate logging more challenging.
In first place is Nick Totterdell G4FAL just ahead of Jonathan Mitchener G0DVJ (M4J) with Graham Bubloz G4FNL in third. The highest scoring most accurate log was submitted by Bob Townsend M0NQN who is therefore awarded the G3XTJ Memorial Trophy. There were five other error free logs from EI5DI, G3YLA, G3ZBU, G4DJX and M0SAR. The leading non-UK certificate goes to Stephane Fevrier F5UOW.
The G5MY Trophy is awarded to the entrant with the highest aggregate score over the two RoLo contests in 2017 and this year it goes to Graham Bubloz G4FNL with a total of 1040 points.
There were a few comments about the length of the contest as many found the qso rate dropped significantly after the first half hour, however 16% of the total (a higher percentage than last year) were made after 2000.
Adjudicating this contest is not as easy as others where there is a consistent exchange and all errors flagged need to be checked to establish if the fault is with the received or sent exchange. This year it was reported that in two cases where a repeat was requested a different locator was sent the second time. Analysis indicated that these were probably the result of macros not being set up correctly. If relying on your computer to send a repeat make sure all the macros have been set to send the last locator received.
It was reported by one entrant and confirmed by my own monitoring of the contest that at least two stations were not sending RST. This is required by the rules, no action was taken this time but entrants are reminded that if rules are not adhered to they may be reclassified as a checklog.
