RoLo SSB 2018
The contest this year unfortunately coincided with Easter Sunday and this is probably the reason for a disappointingly low number of entries. 109 different stations appear in the logs, 27 from outside the UK & CD. In most cases a locator was extracted from a non-entrant but WAB squares and post codes were also in circulation. These caused a few problems with logging software but added some interest!
With a limited number of stations available, the top positions in the table are often very close. However the top three this year are well ahead of the pack, in first place is Sandra G0MCV with a clear lead over Shaun G0BKU/P in second and he is 40 points in front of Jonathan G0DVJ (M4J) in third. Joe EI7GY is a regular supporter of this contest and once again receives a certificate for being the leading non-UK entrant.
Band conditions were better than in previous years and this is reflected in a low mean error rate of 1.3 per log. A record number of fifteen stations achieved an error free log, the highest scoring and therefore the recipient of the Verulam Silver Jubilee Trophy is Mark G4RCD. The other fourteen were EI7GY, G3SFG, G3TDH, G3YLA, GW4BVJ, G4BYE, G4CTY, G4CZB, G4YPE, G7LMF, G8FMC, M0RYB/P, M0XDX and MW0URC.
There was a problem with the entry robot (spotted by a few entrants who noted that there was no QSO data in the returned log file) which was caused by a corruption in the coding. Thanks to Pete G4CLA for recovering the uploaded logs and creating the correct format for adjudication which meant I didn't have to ask entrants to resubmit their logs.
