144MHz CW

A record number of entries was received this year (27), beating the previous record of 25.

The contest was again beset with bad weather and poor conditions, which was reflected in the comments.  UK activity was described as poor, as it is every year!   The poor conditions also made EU entrants to the pan-European Marconi Memorial Contest harder to reach.   All UK logs have been forwarded to the adjudicators of the Marconi Memorial Contest (the Italian Society, ARI) for inclusion in their contest.

The Single Operator Fixed section was won by David Johnson, G4DHF.   John Lemay, G4ZTR, was runner-up.   John continues to extend his achievement of coming either first or second in his chosen section every year on record (back to 1997).

The Open section was won by Tiverton (SW) Radio Club, G4TSW.   Jim Scott, G0HGH/P, was runner-up.

Jeremy Brown, G3XZG, operated the G3MEH station again this year, and won the 6 hour Single Operator Fixed section.   Martyn Vincent, G3Z (G3UKV), was runner-up.

John Cockrill, G4CZB/P, was the only entrant and hence the winner in the 6 hour Open section.

Other certificate winners:

•  David Rumbold, G4RYV – leading station running 25W or less to a single antenna in SF section
•  Alan Horne, M2A (G0TPH) – leading station running 25W or less to a single antenna in 6S section

No leading foundation or intermediate station certificates were awarded due to no entries being received for these categories.   In the whole contest only two QSOs were recorded with intermediate licensees, and one with a foundation licensee.

This contest was the final event in the VHF CW Championship.
