RSGB Contest Results 144MHz May Contest 2016

Once again conditions for this contest were only average at best. Activity levels were about the same as last year although the number of entries was slightly up. There was a big jump in the number of entries in the 24 hours SF section, from 18 last year to 27 this year, with some stations moving from the 6 hour section. The weather again played its part during the weekend, with many stations suffering from static rain and heavy thunderstorms.

Some stations took advantage of the rule changes which allow the use of the ON4KST chat facilities and the use of Machine Generated Modes (MGM) to try some MS QSOs. These MS QSOs still need to include the full contests exchange. As this mode is likely to become more popular the VHFCC will publish a set of guidelines and examples of how this might be achieved. It would seem that this requirement was met for all the MS QSOs made in this event.

The Blacksheep CG keep their grip on the top spot of the Open Section, that's five years in a row now, with Reigate ATS and Crawley ARC up from 3rd last year to 2nd place.

In the Single operator Fixed Section, Anthony G7LRQ takes top honours this year from last year's winner Roger, G3MEH. Other certificate winners include Frank PE1EWR, the highest placed non UK entrant, Steven 2W0JYN the highest placed intermediate licensee, David G4EEV the highest placed entrant using 25W and a single antenna and M6XMM the highest placed foundation licensee.

There were only 3 entries in the SO section, but scores were very close, with Mick M0ICK/P in 1st place from Steve, G0EAK/P in 2nd.

Tony GW8ASD takes first place in the 6 hour Fixed Station Section, from Bob G8HGN a close second place by virtue of a lower Mult count. Peter, 2E0NEY adds another highest placed intermediate licensee certificate to his tally in 3rd place and David, G8LZE is the highest placed station running 25w and a single yagi. Patrick, DL4PD receives the highest placed non-UK entrant certificate.

Tristan, M0VXX was the leading station in the 6 hour Others Section, from the Five Bells Group, G5B in section place.
