RSGB Contest Results 50MHz Trophy 2014

Very mixed comments on conditions for this contest, for those on for the full 24 hours managed to find a few periods of reasonable sporadic-e whereas a number of 6 hour contesters guessed the wrong slot and had a hard slog on pretty poor tropo. In general though it seems people enjoyed themselves and for those in the right place at the right time there was some reasonable DX to be had with G3TXF – Nigel breaking the 5k barrier (5399 km) working TJ3SN – Cameroon and a number of other stations working into Kuwait and Cyprus.

Turnout this year was similar to last year with the exception of an increase of 12 in the SF section. Thanks to all stations for abiding by band plan as I have not received any complaints of infringements into 50.100-50.130 DX part of the band.

Logging was mixed this year and common errors were incorrect serial numbers and some odd calls due to Mixing I’s and O’s with numbers. A number of the errors found were probably due to the fast changing conditions on the band. It is worthwhile at least sense checking prefixes before submitting as a number of these were obviously wrong.

Well done to the Blacksheep CG operating again down on the Lizard in Cornwall for retaining the Telford Trophy with a huge score and congratulations to GW4BVY/P (G4BVY) – Roger operating from S.E. Wales who takes the Six Metre Cup with a significant lead over the other contenders.
