70 MHz CW 2012

This is the third year of the resurrected 70MHz CW contest.  Activity continues to rise with 62 stations appearing in the logs (a 12% increase), though the number of entries fell slightly as a number of stations with reasonable totals did not submit entries.  This year stations were active in G, GM, GU, GW, ON and PA.

The first two hours were busy, but 17% of contacts took place in final hour allowing entrants to hunt down multipliers.  Conditions were generally rated as poor and there was no Sporadic-E.  Despite the poor conditions, logging standards were much improved over previous years.  The best DX of the event was between G4TSW and PF7M at 703kms.  In total there were 11 QSOs greater than 500kms with the ON and PA stations responsible for 10 of these.

This year sees the introduction of a new Trophy,  "The Bill Capstick, G3JYP, Memorial Award" in recognition of Bill's stalwart support of 70MHz activities over the years.  The inaugural winners of The G3JYP Cup are the Tiverton (SW) Radio Club, G4TSW.
