70MHz FM ACTIVITY CONTEST - 20/12/18 AND FULL YEAR RESULTS

Despite this being the last scheduled 70MHz FMAC, the number of entries for the December 2018 session was up by 86% on November at thirteen (four section 10R and nine section 50R). 39 valid calls appear in the logs (of which nineteen -half - were uniques). These were from seven big squares and 2 DXCC entities (G & GW). The best DX was between G7LRQ/P and G3WCB/P at 273km. Only four comments were received from entrants, and these thanked participants for the QSOs, and expressed the view that the series had been fun.

Moving on to the whole year results, the number of entrants varied across the twelve sessions between seven and twenty two - a ratio of over 3:1 - although there was no clearly discernable pattern. There were corresponding variations in the numbers of big squares worked (between five and fourteen), DXCC countries worked (between one and three), valid calls appearing in the logs (between 29 & 63) and best DX (between 1 and 435km). The latter was between M1DDD/P and GU6EFB in the July session, which may come as something of a surprise to those who view FM as a strictly local mode!

There will be no 70MHz FMACs in 2019 as (a) the number of entries has been very limited, and (b) there has been little or no apparent feedthrough of entrants to more mainstream contesting. But many thanks to all those who have taken part!
